The First Turcorn: Peak Games

Peak Games, Turkey’s first Turcorn to have great success in the international game market, is a leading mobile games company based in Istanbul, founded by Sidar Şahin in 2010.  The company, which designs and develops puzzle games for Android and iOS platforms, managed to receive an investment of 19.5 million dollars seven months after its establishment.[1] Within a short period of time, Peak Games achieved a rapid growth and attracted the attention of international market. In 2017, Peak’s card and okey game studio was sold to US game development giant Zynga for $100 million.[2] The Toon Blast and Toy Blast game series developed by Peak were among the top 10 best-selling games in the US, reaching more than 12 million active mobile users.[3] After being acquired by Zynga for $1.8 billion in 2020, Peak Games became Turkey’s first billion-dollar start-up, which we call a “Turcorn.”

First Turcorn’s contribution to the ecosystem:

The success of Peak Games has played an important role in leading Turkey past its peers to become the most invested country in Europe when it comes to investments in gaming ventures. An all-time high of $333 million of capital poured into 13 Turkish gaming ventures from January through June this year, according to data from the startups.watch.[4]  Peak Games has not only attracted the attention of foreign investors to Turkey but has also become a source of inspiration for game developers and contributed to the emergence of other ventures. The fact that 80 former Peak members have founded 65 startups, 28 of which were engaged in gaming, is a clear example of Peak Games’ contribution to the growth of Turkish game industry and thus to Turkey’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
