Getir, ‘the second of Turcorns’, is an online on-demand delivery application established in 2015 by Nazım Salur and his founding partners. The company, which initially offered grocery delivery services through its mobile application, later expanded rapidly by adding various services such as GetirMore, GetirFood, GetirWater and GetirLocals. In addition to the rapid growth that the company has achieved, the coronavirus epidemic, which led to an increase in online food purchases, has also accelerated the company’s rise. During the pandemic, the company’s download rates increased by 60 percent and business volume by 65 percent.[1]

Getir has become one of the most successful startups in the world by bringing products to its users within 10 minutes and attracting the attention of investors with its original business idea. In 2021, Getir became Turkey’s second Turcorn, reaching a $2.6 billion valuation with a $300 million investment from Silicon Valley’s Sequoia Capital and New York’s Tiger Global.[2] The company, which has increased its value to $11.8 billion with an investment of $768 million in the first quarter of 2022, has been dubbed Turkey’s second Decacorn after Trendyol and became the first to hold the title of ‘Decacorn’ among on-demand delivery companies in Europe.[3] According to CB Insights, Getir’s current valuation places it 38th among the 1100 unicorn companies worldwide and 5th in the list of unicorn companies in Europe.[4]

Getir, which has made a name for itself with the success it has achieved, is an inspiration to Turkish entrepreneurs and Turkey’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
